After struggling with a heart ailment for many months, Frank succumbed in the early hours of Sunday, January 20, 2008 at The Atrium at Penn State, State College, PA.
Frank was born on 9 October, 1920 in Brooklyn NY of Stephen and Juliet Knight. He is survived by his wife, Beatrix, of nearly 64 years, his brother, Stephen B. and his wife Charlotte, three sons, Paul G and his wife Mary, John A. and his wife Sarah, and Frank C. Jr. and his wife Lucia and by five grandchildren, Susan, Lauren, Joseph, Catherine and Joanna.
Following graduation from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1939, Frank worked at the Armor Corporation prior to joining the Army Air Corps during WWII. As a 1st Lt, he was stationed in Japan and attached to the Signal Corp; prior to that he had taught radar and radio technology to Army personnel at Yale in New Haven.
Upon separation from the Army Air Corps, Frank joined the Bell System where he started as a switching technician at New York Telephone Co. in Brooklyn, until retiring 36 years later as a Managing Director of Service Costs Methods for AT&T in Basking Ridge, NJ. During his career, Frank held positions as supervisor on the operating staff, Communications Consultant and National Account Manager in the marketing department, and director positions in the regulatory and rates departments prior to accepting a role at AT&T headquarters.
Throughout his life, Frank gave of his time and talents generously in the service of his church community and to those in need of spiritual guidance. He served as president of the Holy Name Society, the Parents' Guild and the Finance Committee at St Pascal Baylon Church in Hollis, NY. For over twenty years, Frank and Beatrix worked to introduce the Marriage Encounter, and later the Engaged Encounter retreats throughout the U.S. and Europe. Later, after retirement, they were members of Lamp Ministries, an outreach program of the Brooklyn, New York and Jersey City Dioceses, serving as lay ministers in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.
Friends will be received from 9:30 a. m. until 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will follow at 10:00 a. m. at the funeral home with Monsignor Lockhard officiating. Entombment will be at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
