Gary L. Smith, 62, of Centre Hall, died Monday, February 18, 2008, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
He was born September 13, 1945, at Lock Haven, a son of the late George O. Smith and Fannie McKibben Smith.
On September 22, 1978 he married Linda I. Brouse who survives at home.
In addition to his wife Linda, he is survived by two daughters, Sara I. Smith of Millheim and Hannah M. Smith of Centre Hall; one son Donn Smith and his wife Robin of Madison, FL; four grandchildren, Briana and Stephen Hawkins, and Laurie and Keeley Smith; three sisters, Georgene Conklin of Mill Hall, Ruth Brown of Carlisle, and Cheryl Fuller of Mill Hall; three brothers, Karl Smith of Minnesota, Thomas (Tuck) Smith of Cogan Station, and Robert Smith of Carlisle.
His parents, a sister Janet, and two brothers, Donald and Eugene, preceded him in death.
Gary graduated from Lock Haven High School and attended Penn State University.
He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1963 to 1983, including a tour of duty in Viet Nam.
Mr. Smith was employed as a mechanic at Standard Steel in Burnham since 1989, where he was a member of the Steel Workers Union.
What we all remember most about Gary, was his ability to love and be loved. He would do anything for anyone in need. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p. m Thursday, February 21, 2008, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the funeral service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
