George W. Callahan, 69, of Bellefonte, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in College Township.
Born on October 7, 1939 in Bellefonte, he was a son of the late George Samuel Lewis and Lena Mae (Meyers) Callahan.
George was married to Mildred A. (Breon) Callahan, who survives him.
He was employed as a truck driver at FT Selfies.
Mr. Callahan was a veteran of the U.S Army, serving in the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the State College American Legion, Post # 245. Also, he was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steeler's, NASCAR and the #1 fan of Jeff Gordon.
He enjoyed camping, fishing and his favorite sport was hunting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Jean M. Shawley of State College, Sally A. Ishler and her husband Mike of Bellefonte, Cindy L. Ostroskie and her husband Mike of Bellefonte, and Pamela S. Skipper and her husband Michael of Roaring Branch; three sons, George M. Callahan of Bellefonte, Edwin L. Witherite and his wife Melanie of Windgate, and Robert L. Callahan and his wife Beth of Bellefonte; one brother, Sherman Callahan and his wife Winnie of Mifflinburg; one sister, Irma Dean of State College; fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm., Tuesday, January 13, 2009 and from 11:00 am until the time of funeral services, Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College where Funeral Services will be held at 12 Noon. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Reverend Frank Skies officiating. Burial will follow at Centre County Memorial Park with full military honors.
