George C. Derick, 81, of State College passed away on September 12, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Derick was born in Sunbury, PA on November 1, 1925, a son of the late George C. and Katherine Worrell Derick. On October 2, 1982, he married Marianne Sweringen Hornstein, who survives in State College.
Mr. Derick is survived by a son, Dr. Jeffrey Michael Derick and his wife Janet of North Wilkesboro, NC; three daughters, Georganne Derick of Columbia, MD, Jennifer and her husband Dr. Mika Sinanan of Seattle, WA, and Melinda Derick and her husband Arthur Helbig of Columbia, MD; three stepsons, Thomas O. Hornstein and his wife Diane of Syracuse, NY, Dale H. Hornstein and his wife Madelyn of Syracuse, NY, and Richard R. Hornstein and his wife Carol of Syracuse, NY; one stepdaughter, Betty Anne Hornstein of Destin, FL and thirteen grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Derick; a sister, Nancy Derick LeMaster; his stepmother, Hazel Derick, and Goggy, his grandmother.
Mr. Derick was a graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. He also faithfully served his country and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Pharmacist Mate II Class during World War II. Mr. Derick retired from the real estate business in 1982, and was previously employed with Rea and Derick, Inc until 1965.
A memorial service was held to celebrate his life at the New Covenant Baptist Church in State College on Sunday, September 16, 2007.
