George H. Fisher died at his home in Bellefonte on Monday, Nov. 15th in his 89th year of life. Passing peacefully in the full assurance of a Christian hope, attended by his tenderly devoted family, George closed his eyes to a long, active, and useful life.
Born in Jacksonville on September 19, 1921, he was the son of Luther F. Fisher and Elizabeth (Hoy) Fisher.
Preceded in death is a brother, Claude F. Fisher and two sisters, Kathryn Koch and Sarah Snyder.
Surviving are one brother, Samuel L. Fisher and one sister, Ethel Drogen. He is also survived by 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
He was married to Jean C. Torsell on January 24th, 1944 and is survived by two children, Antoinette and Dwayne; son in law, John Fry; and grandson, Scott Fry.
George proudly served his country in WWII as a machinist's mate from June 1942 to December 1945.
His professional life included the University Creamery, Meadow Pride Dairy, and Corning Glass Work from January 1967 until his retirement in September 1983.
He was a member of the Zion Community Church, where he served as a deacon and faithfully attended church for 9 years.
George had a passionate love of hunting, fishing, sports, and gardening, stemming from his parents and his youth. Later, his hobbies extended to include camping, crafting, and some travel.
Services will be held at the Zion Community Church, December 6th, 2010, beginning at 11:00 AM.
Of a pleasant temperament, his friends always found a joyous and generous welcome to his hospitable home and he will be sadly missed by all, especially his beloved family.
