George A. Gummo, 86, of State College, PA, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at Centre Community Hospital.
He was born Nov. 10, 1916 in Pennsylvania Furnace, a son of the late William and Anna Gummo.
He was married to Mary E. Horner who preceded him in death in 1972.
Mr. Gummo was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II.
He was self-employed as a carpenter and also worked for Bob Showers Construction and other contractors retiring in 1979.
Mr. Gummo was the oldest member of the State College Evangelical Free Church.
Earlier in life he was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed bowling and was a member of Gummo Plugs Bowling League.
He is survived by a daughter, Debbie E. Barto and her husband Ronald (Butch) of State College; 2 sons, Fred W. Gummo and his wife Joan of State College, and Harold A. Gummo and his wife Barbara of Bellefonte; one brother, Roy Gummo of Pennsylvania Furnace; 10 Grandchildren, and 14 Great Grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter Dolores Grove and 2 sisters Gladys Neff and Ella Mae Stitzer.
Friends will be received from noon to 2:00 p. m., Sat. Oct. 25, 2003 at the State College Evangelical Free Church, 343 Blue Course Drive, State College, PA. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p. m. at the church with the Rev. Eric Tober, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Mills Cemetery, Pine Grove Mills, PA
