George J. Horner, 82, of Warrior's Mark, formerly of Boalsburg, went to meet his Creator and Saviour on Friday November 18,2005. He was born September 29,1923 at Colyer, Centre County, the son of John W. and Marian Mae Burchfield Horner.
In 1946 he married Mary Louise Zeigler of Boalsburg, and in 1989 after her decease, he married Maxine Rinehart McClarren of Harrisburg.
He is survived by two sons; Rick Horner of Stormstown and Nick Horner of Bellefonte R.D.; two daughters; Tina Allamon of Warrior's Mark and Tammie Cooper of Pine Grove Mills; six grandchildren; Nicole, Ryan and Aracely Allamon, Noel, Noah and Nickolai Walk; one godchild; Dana J. Williams of Boalsburg; three stepsons; Robert, Tom and Douglas McClarren of Harrisburg, and their children; Josh and Christy, Tyler and Caitlin, Bryant and Alyssa McClarren; three brothers; John Jr. of Pine Grove Mills, Frank Horner of State College, and Abe Horner of Clearfield County; three sisters; Violet Ross of Bellefonte, Nellie Hanscom of Julian, and Cecille Burkholder of Unionville.
He was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters; Harold and Robert W. Horner, Isabel Miller Wagner, Bernadine McClintic and Cora Mae Snyder.
He graduated from State College High School in 1943 and joined the US Army at the time of WWII.
He was employed as a sub-contractor for J. Alvin Hawbaker and had his own business, Nittany Drywall and Painting for over fifty years. He and his work crew plastered and painted numerous homes and buildings in the county. He also built several houses in the Boalsburg area. His interests were his work and his church. He enjoyed tenting at the Granger's Fair and carnivals and festivals. He loved to read books about the Bible and the Hebrews and ancient civilizations. He was a life long member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Boalsburg.
A public viewing will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Monday November 21,2005 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services PC, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday November 22,2005 at the St. John's United Church of Christ, 214 N. Church St., Boalsburg, PA 16827 with the Rev. Allen Heckman officiating. Burial will follow at the Chapel mausoleum at the Centre County Memorial Park after which a reception will be held at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's United Church of Christ, in care of George J. Horner, 214 N. Church St.,Boalsburg,PA 16827.
