Obituary

George W. Martz, 85, of Centre Hall, died Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College.
He was born June 22, 1920 in Centre Hall, a son of the late John and Latitia Bradford Martz
On April 12, 1958 he married Alma M. Bradford who survives at home.
Mr. Martz was a graduate of Centre Hall-Potter Township High School. He had served in the U. S. Army during World War II, with the Infantry Division, earning three Purple Hearts. Early in life he worked at Kerlin's Poultry farm in Centre Hall, then later worked for Penn D. O. T. retiring from that position.
He was a member of the Disabled Veterans of America, the V. F. W. Post 1600, Bellefonte, and Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall.
George was an accomplished bowler having earned many trophies. In 1992 he was inducted into the Seven Mountains Hall of Fame. Early in life he had played baseball with the Centre Hall Senators. He enjoyed hunting and was a gifted storyteller.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Cathy Rhoades of Bellefonte, Susan L. Rusher of Englewood, FL, and Cindy Rusnak of Bellefonte, PA; six grandchildren, Nichole and Edwin Rhoades, J. R. and Becky Rusher and Mark and Taylor Rusnak; two great grandchildren, Trevor and Owen Rhoades and one sister, Ethel Musick of Bellefonte. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Esther Baney, Anna M. Showers and Kathryn Howard, and two brothers, Paul and Ralph Martz.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 10:30 a. m. Monday, September 26, 2005 at the funeral home with the Rev. S. Leigh Pick officiating. Burial will in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, Centre Hall, PA.
