Gladys Beck Yeagley (Becky) 85, of State College died on November 14, 2008 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born on January 14, 1923 in Delabole, Pennsylvania, she is the daughter of the late Mildred and Arch Beck. On May 8, 1943, she married the love of her life Henry L. Yeagley Jr., who preceded her in death October 30, 2003.
Becky attended Pen Argyl High School and graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Becky enjoyed her many jobs as Junior High School Home Economics teacher, ARC Carousel School Teacher, Mother and Housewife. Included in her adventures were a European Alps Tour, Cross Country skiing and Rails to Trails biking trips. A natural athlete, Becky played tennis, golf, ping pong and she enjoyed biking, hiking and bowling.
In 2006, Becky was awarded the United Way Volunteer of the Year Award, given by the for her dedicated commitment at Foxdale Village where she lived. Her kindness and compassion exuded throughout the Foxdale community. She taught Tai Chi, created exhibits and designed birthday cards and messages for the residents. She was a constant support and breath of fresh air around Foxdale and she volunteered in every facet of the community.
Becky's family includes her husband Henry, and her granddaughter, Abby who preceded her in death exactly five years ago, and her son Steven Beck who died in 1977. She will be missed by her daughter Dena of State College, Henry and Carol of Spring Mills, and Becky Lee Israel and Burt Israel (deceased) of Mansfield, Pa. Her grandchildren Stephen, Benjamin, Chandra and Leanne, Henry (Rick) and Julie will miss her constant faith and encouragement.
A memorial service will be held at Foxdale Village Auditorium on November 30, 2008 at 2:00pm. Memorial contributions can be sent to, The Abby Alert Children's Crusade, a fund to promote the awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, and to provide carbon monoxide detectors to low income families throughout Pennsylvania; C/O First National Bank, PO Box 1540, Hermitage, PA 16148
