Glenn R. Braucht, 82, of Centre Hall, died Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.
He was born March 30, 1926, at Woodward, a son of the late Rufus James and Mary Best Braucht.
On August 3, 1955, he married Florence Mae Winans who preceded him in death on December 16, 2002.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda J. Braucht Heverly and her husband Randy of Centre Hall, one son, Timothy J. Braucht of Centre Hall; and four grandchildren, Jacob Heverly and his wife Amanda, Marci Heverly, Rachel Houts and her husband David, and Benjamin Heverly; and one grest grandson Owen Thomas Houts.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Stella Nora Braucht.
Glenn served in the U. S. Army in Germany during peacetime.
Mr. Braucht was raised on a farm where he learned the value of hard work. For some time he drove bulk tank trucks, picking up milk at farms. Later he drove truck for Garbrick Amusements in Centre Hall, as well as helping to set up and operate rides. He then worked as a mechanic specializing in transmission repair, working for McClellan Motors in State College, Keckler Motors of State College, Miller Motors in Centre Hall and for Krout Pontiac in Bellefonte. He also worked as a representative for Mac Tools. Later he went to work at Penn State University in janitorial services, retiring in 1990. He also owned and operated his own garage for some time.
He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Centre Hall where he served as a deacon and an usher. He was a member of the Tussey Mountain Agitators Chapter of the Good Sam Camping Club, a member of a CB Club, a member of the Centre Hall Fire Company and Ambulance Club, having served as an ambulance driver. Glenn enjoyed playing Pinochle, hunting, fishing, camping and sight seeing.
Mr. Braucht was a caring, compassionate, gracious, helpful person, with a devilish sense of humor. He always served others with his talents and abilities.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Trinity United Church of Christ, Pennsylvania Ave. and Ridge St., Centre Hall, PA, with the Reverend S. Leigh Pick officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Aaronsburg.
