Gretta May Klinefelter, 90 of State College, PA died Friday, May 26, 2023 at her home. Born May 13, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Raymond R. Rudy and Melinda C. Miller Rudy. On June 7, 1948 she married Samuel J. Klinefelter, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2003.
Gretta is survived by 5 children, Edward of Roseville, MI, Sarah Verne of Lock Haven, PA, Judith Walker (Michael) of Port Matilda, PA, Sandra Klinefelter of State College, PA and Joyce Fellows (Steven) of State College, PA; 8 grandchildren, Angela Klinefelter and Nicole Noland (Anthony, Sr.) of Michigan, Brian Verne of Belle Vernon, PA, Christie Verne of Lock Haven, PA, Eric Bingman (Faith) of North Carolina, Kimberly James (Brandan) of Texas, Matthew Fellows (Laura) of State College, PA and Alicia Franco of Nevada; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her son, Samuel D. Klinefelter, III; 2 grandsons, Curtis M. Verne and Joseph T. Bingman; daughter-in-law, Barbara L. Klinefelter; son-in-law, Michael A. Verne; 4 brothers and 7 sisters. She was the last of her generation.
Gretta loved her family and loved to cook for them. In her early life she worked for the State College School District in the cafeteria as a cook and later at the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. She was a member of Mount Nittany United Methodist Church and was very involved with the church's fundraisers for football dinners and making Easter eggs.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church 1500 E. Branch Rd, State College, PA from 9:30am - 11:00am with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00am, Pastor Carl Hill officiating. Interment will be held at the Centre County Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions can be made in Gretta's memory to the Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church.
