Gustav F. Koch, 92, of Rural Port Matilda, formerly of Toms River, New Jersey, died Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.
He was born February 1, 1912, in Germany, a son of the late Dietrich and Martha Ernst Koch; coming to the United States in 1956, a decision he never regretted. He loved his new country, the United States.
On February 20, 1937, he married Martha Popp who survives at home.
While in Germany, Mr. Koch became a master electrician. He was employed by Standard Electric as a Master Electrical Technician.
Mr. Koch was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in State College since 1999. In Germany he was active in the United Methodist Men's Club and sang in the choir. As a young man he taught instrumental music in church to both young and old.
He was an avid self taught violinist and an avid lover of classical music. He performed with the Crestwood Symphonettes in Toms River, as well as playing in various churches and holiday concerts. He also enjoyed camping and bird watching.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Trauta Greb and her husband Wolfgang, of rural Port Matilda; one son Hartmut Koch and his wife Janice of Toms River, NJ; 2 grandchildren Monica and Kevin, several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six siblings and was the last of his generation.
There will be no public visitation. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday, August 28, 2004, at the Eloise B. Kyper Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, with the Rev. Pamela Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
