Hansjakob Rothenbacher, 82, of State College, died on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in College Township.
Born on January 21, 1928 in Blaubeuren, Germany, he was a son of the late Karl and Anna (Burr) Rothenbacher.
Dr. Rothenbacher received a Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from the University of Munich and a Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from Michigan State University.
He served as a Professor of Veterinarian Science at Penn State University for over 25 years. After Penn State, he served as a Veterinarian Pathologist for the State of Pennsylvania.
He was a faithful and loved member at Grace Lutheran Church in State College, where he taught Sunday School, was deeply dedicated and supported the widows group of his church, and found joy in helping others. He also belonged to a Senior Tennis League, enjoyed swimming, and volunteered at several area nursing homes.
Dr. Rothenbacher spent a lot of time taking care of his farm house in Shingletown, where he enjoyed mowing and upkeep of his property. He also owned a rental property business in the Centre County Region.
He is survived by three sons, Carl (Grace) of Indianapolis, IN, Peter (Dawn) of Charlotte, NC, and Jacob of Kent, OH; one sister, Irmgard Rothenbacher of Reutlingen, Germany; and six grandchildren, Joseph, David, Lukas, Gabby, Zachary, and Nathan Rothenbacher.
A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 205 S. Garner St., State College, on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 2:00 PM, with the Reverend P. Stevens Lynn officiating. Interment will be in Germany at a later date.
