Harold "Hal" Willits, 84, of Harris Township passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Born February 12, 1930, in Wiliamsport, PA, he was the youngest son of B. Franklin Willits and Margaret Wells Willits. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1948, and served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Following his military discharge Hal, enrolled at The Pennsylvania State University. University Park, and in 1956 received a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Education. For several years, he taught Vocational Agriculture at Selinsgrove (PA) High School. Returning to Penn State, in 1959-61, Hal completed a Master of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics and studied Instructional Technology. He earned a second Master's Degree, in Library Science, from Clarion University in 1979. Harold spent his working career in education. He was Assistant Director of the Penn State Film Library; taught at Lock Haven University; was Instructional Media Coordinator and Media Consultant for the State College Area School District; and served as Technical Information Specialist for PENNTAP, an outreach arm of Penn State.
In 1957 Hal married Fern (Bunny) Kaley, who survives. Immediate family also surviving are: daughter, Wendy Willits Woelk; son-in-law, Ryall Tracy Woelk; son, Kenrick B. Willits; and two grandchildren, Jason Ryall Woelk and Kayleigh Jo Woelk. Funeral arrangements, are under the direction of Mark D. Heintzelman, Funeral and Cremation Service and will be at the convenience of the family.
