Harry D. Smith's Obituary
Harry Dean Smith, 85, of Potters Mills, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Born October 21, 1922 at home in Potters Mills, son of the late John Roy and Mildred Treaster Smith. He was a 1940 graduate of Centre Hall Potter High School.
On June 30, 1945, he married Helen Schur of Rankin, who preceded him in death on December 20, 2005.
Surviving are three daughters, Jessica McClintic and husband Gary of Boalsburg, Gerry Ilgen and husband Marty of Potters Mills, Jacqueline Price and husband Fred of Spring Mills and one son, John D. Smith and wife Marieta of Potters Mills. He has thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Betty Ehrenfeld of Milroy. One daughter, Georganna Michelotti, preceded him in death. Dean was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall.
He was a member of the Potters Mills VFW and the Centre Hall American Legion. The Nittany Lion Inn employed him while he attended PSU. He also worked at the Eutaw House, and the Boalsburg Steak House. He worked at the All-American Rathskeller before becoming the owner for 30 years until his retirement in 1980.
Dean was a life long member of Buck Fever Rod and Gun Club of Mifflin County as well as a third generation leasee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and coin collecting. He and his wife enjoyed traveling to PSU football games and golfing at the Elks Country Club of which he was a life member and worked as a golf ranger. He especially enjoyed all the Buck Fever Camp gatherings and Christmas Eve with his children and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial services at 11:00 a. m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Trinity United Church of Christ, Pennasylvania Ave. and Ridge Street, Centre Hall, with Rev. S. Leigh Pick officiating.
