Dr. Harvey Pasternack, 62, of State College, died Thursday, July 17, 2008. at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
He was born November 6, 1945, in New York, New York a son of Jack and Pauline Schwartzbart Pasternack.
After graduating form Altoona Area High School, he attended Penn State University earning a BA and MA there. In 1975 he graduated form St. John's University with a Doctor of Juris Prudence Degree.
Dr. Pasternack is a principal in Krauss and Pasternack, a full-service general management, human resources and employee benefits consulting, administration and record keeping firm located in State College, Pennsylvania. His areas of concentration include retirement and benefit plans, executive compensation and business financial planning.
He has been an attorney, actuary and business consultant for over thirty years, primarily in the New York City area. He has been involved in providing consulting and professional advice to many of the largest companies in the United States as well as smaller companies and individuals, eleemosynary institutions and governmental units, primarily in the areas of business financial and tax planning, design and operation of effective retirement and other benefit plans and executive, management and industrial compensation programs.
Dr. Pasternack is a member of numerous professional organizations including the International Actuarial Association (Association Actuarielle Internationale), the American Academy of Actuaries, the Society for Human Resources Management, the American Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the Philadelphia Bar Association, the Centre County Bar Association, the Allegheny County Bar Association and the American Association For the Advancement of Science. He is admitted to the Bars of both New York and Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries with the United States Government, and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
He has served on a Committee of the Federal Government to recommend actuarial standards in the collection of actuarial data, established at the recommendation of the Secretary of the Treasury. He has also served as lecturer and presenter at various professional actuarial meetings.
Dr. Pasternack has also written several articles on professional matters and has taught many specialized continuing education courses.
While residing at Centre Crest, he was a facilitator of the science group, participated in the creative writing program, the Bible scholar program and enjoyed spending time outside or in the living room observing people and activities.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a. m., Friday, July 17, 2008, at Centre County Memorial Park, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA
