Obituary

Helen E. Smith, 90, of Valley View Haven Retirement Community, Belleville, formerly of Centre Hall, died at Valley View on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
She was born April 30, 1922, in Altoona, a daughter of the late James and Sylvia Mackey.
On June 19, 1946 she married Donald Eugene Smith, who preceded her in death April 2, 1988.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a sister, Genevieve Swanger of Altoona; two brother in laws, Carl Smith and his wife Doris of Centre Hall and Robert E. Berich of Reedsville; one sister in law, Patricia Mackey of Altoona; several nieces and nephews including Cynthia L. Corbin of Milroy who has served as her care supervisor during her stay at Belleville.
In addition to her parents and husband, a brother James Mackey and a sister in infancy preceded Helen in death.
Following high school, Mrs. Smith attended Beauty School in Altoona. She went on to work for many years as a beautician and also worked in retail sales. She also was very active serving on the election board at Centre Hall Borough.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall, where she was a former choir director. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 207, Centre Hall.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, collecting angels, and collecting pictures of famous musicians.
Friends will be received from 9:30 until the time of the Funeral Services at 11:15 AM on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 104 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall with the Rev. Audra Krise officiating. The Order of the Eastern Star Service will be accorded from the church on Thursday, beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, West Church St. Centre Hall, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, P. O. Box 212, Centre Hall, PA 16828 or to the Valley View Retirement Community Residents Fund, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, PA 17004.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall.
