IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen
Rumberger
June 18, 1925 – March 4, 2021
After a brief illness, Helen (Drennan) Rumberger passed peacefully on March 4, 2021 at the Atrium at Penn State with family members at her side. She is remembered by family and friends for her kind spirit and giving heart.
Helen was born on June 18, 1925 in Buck Hill Falls, PA to Harry and Edith Drennan. As a young teenager Helen worked with her father to train and drive Siberian husky sled dogs. She graduated from Barrett Township School in 1942 as class Valedictorian and from Pennsylvania State University in 1946 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. Following a post graduate year working in New York City, Helen married William Rumberger, whom she met at PSU. Their family grew to four children from 1950 to 1954, and Helen put her time and energy into their care and development. The Rumbergers raised their children in Buffalo and Syracuse NY. In retirement, they returned to State College, the home of their alma mater.
During their time in State College, Helen enjoyed volunteering and attending Penn State sports events. She was an avid supporter of Penn State student athletes in their many forms. She was a member of the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church in Lemont, the Penn State Alumni Association, Quarterback Club, and President's Club.
Surviving Mrs. Rumberger are two sons, Robert S. Rumberger (Judith) of Winter Springs, FL, and David A. Rumberger (Gloria) of East Stroudsburg, PA, and one daughter Kathy E. Rumberger of Norfolk, VA.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one sister-in-law Rachel "Charlie" Whiting of Jacksonville, AK. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years William A. Rumberger, a daughter, Jean M. Campbell, two sisters Edith Griffith and Eileen Starr, and two brothers Harry Drennan and Jeremiah Drennan.
Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
