Henry William Ebeling, Sr. was born in New York City on July 18, 1919, son of Henry Charles Ebeling and Wanda (Muntz) Ebeling. On May 4, 1946, in Mount Vernon, New York, he married the former Ella E. Blenis, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, H. William Ebeling, Jr. and wife Deborah (Foster) Ebeling of Winchester, MA., and Peter K. Ebeling and wife, Kathy (Dotterer) Ebeling of Mackeyville, PA. Five Grandchildren: Morgan, Christopher, and Geoffrey - Boston, MA., Brian - State College, PA, and Carl, who is surviving in the Navy, his sister, Elaine Fuller-Whitcomb and husband Roy (Whitcomb) of Manchester, ME., Sister-in-law Motoko Blenis of San Leandro, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was in a pedestrian/van accident in Scottsdale, AZ 16 years ago. His health has gradually deteriorated. Yet in spite of aphasia and difficult moving about, he continued to be cheerful and outgoing. He was a "people person."
Henry attended Scarsdale, N.Y. schools through 11 grades and graduated from White Plains High School in 1938. He graduated Cum Laude with a BS in accounting from Syracuse University in January 1949 and was treasurer of Beta Alpha Psi, national accounting honorary at the university.
He joined the Army Air Corps in September 1940 (prior to WW II) and retired with the rank of Technical Sergeant in 1945 - a year and half was spent in England.
He worked for Arthur Young and Co., CPA's in New York City from 1949 to 1951 and joined Piper Aircraft Corporation, Lock Haven, PA in 1951, retiring in 1984 as Assistant Controller.
Henry served as Treasurer for number of associations, including several school boards, Millbrook Playhouse for many years, the Piper Foundation, and the Clinton Country Club.
He was an active member of the Woolrich United Methodist Community Church for almost 50 years, serving on many boards and committees, including Trustees and Chair of the AD Board. He also served as auditor for the Central Pennsylvania Conference Pension Fund for a number of years. He has been a member of Mount Nittany United Methodist Church of Lemont since 1999.
He has a great interest in children and was instrumental in starting the local little league and helping to build their ballfield. He was an avid tennis player and spent time assisting the youth in Woolrich learn and appreciate the sport. His hobbies included woodworking. He finished a number of rooms in his home in Woolrich. He also skied and played bridge. In retirement, he served as SCORE member for Lycoming and Clinton Counties.
He donated his body to the Human Gifts Registry. A Memorial Service will be held at Foxdale Village in the Spring. Memorials may be directed to Foxdale Village Employees Appreciation Fund, 500 E. Marylyn Ave., State College, PA 16801.
