Obituary

Homer Theodore "Ted" Coulter, 86, of rural Spring Mills, PA died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at his residence.
He was born September 20, 1918, in Grove City, PA, a son of the late Chester and Florence Graham Coulter Sr.
On July 22, 1947 he married Frances E. Fohringer who died Dec. 7, 1996.
Mr. Coulter graduated from Grove City High School in 1935.
Mr. Coulter farmed most of his life. During World War II he farmed during the day and at night worked in defense manufacturing at Pheonixville, Chester County, PA, making insulation and tubes for boilers to be used in ships. Mr. Coulter came to Centre County from 1937 - 1940, when he went to live in Chester County. In 1948 he returned to Centre County and purchased a farm, then in 1960 purchased an additional farm. He continued farming until 1970 when he began scaling back by selling one farm, but continued to farm until 1997. Even after retiring in 1997 he remained active on the farm, though not farming full time.
Ted was a member of Bethany E. U. B. Church in Colyer, (now Bethany United Methodist Church), where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He was an avid hunter earlier in life and continued to be an avid reader with a deep interest in spiritual and religious issues, and farming.
He is survived by two sons, Theodore L. Coulter and Gerald T. Coulter of Rural Spring Mills; sister Ruth Huey of Central Valley, CA and 2 brothers Clyde and Chester Coulter both of Grove City, PA; 2 grandsons, Terry S. Coulter of Pheonixville, PA and Kevin T. Coulter and his wife Sarah Day-Coulter of Ashboro, NC; 3 step grandchildren William Houtz of Chicago, Brian Houtz of State College and Sherry Houtz of Bellefonte, and 3 step great grandchildren, Andrew, Taylor Ann, and Rayvin Houtz. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Johnson and Margaret (Peg) Keeman.
Friends will be received from Noon to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 2:00 p. m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. L. Ed Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery, Colyer, PA
