J. Raymond "Rink" Swabb, of Linden Hall, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at Valley View Haven at Belleville. He had been a resident of Valley View Haven Retirement Community at Belleville, since July of 1998.
He was born on October 17, 1926 in Sharon, PA a son of the late Joseph and Stella Thompson Swabb.
On September 26, 1948, he married Barbara Irene Ross who preceded him in death on February 16, 1989.
Mr. Swabb is survived by a son Jeffrey R. Swabb of Linden Hall, and his companion Linda Houtz; one sister, M. Arlene Stover of Spring Mills; two nieces and four nephews.
Rink graduated from Gregg Township Vocational School in Spring Mills in 1945; and graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois in 1948.
He was drafted into the U. S. Navy on February 7, 1945, serving on the USS Niobrara AO-72, until being discharged on July 27, 1946. During the Korean Conflict, Rink was called back to the Navy on October 10, 1950, serving on the USS Delta, II AR-9, being discharged on February 14, 1952.
Rink was employed by the former Centre County Canning Company, now known as Hanover Foods Corporation, where he was a familiar face at all branches of Hanover Foods.
Before the onset of Parkinson's Disease, Rink enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. He thoroughly enjoyed Grange Fair, where visiting with friends old and new, made him happy.
There will be no public visitation. A private funeral service will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday, February 1, 2008, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA, with the Reverend Carl Campbell officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
