James Wesley Settle, age 77, of Bellefonte (Zion) entered into rest on October 8, 2010 at his home. Born April 4, 1933 in Pine Grove Mills, PA, he was the son of the late Harold J. Settle and Freda L. Settle.
On August 9, 1958, in Lock Haven, he married Karen D. Herr, who survives at home.
He was a 1951 graduate of Centre Hall Potter High School. He graduated in 1958 from Lock Haven University with a B.S. degree in Education and a Masters B.S. Degree in Safety Education from Central Missouri University in 1970. He taught in the Bald Eagle Area School district for 35 years, retiring July 21, 1993.
He served in the US Army Artillery from 1953-55, with the rank of corporal.
He was a life member of Centre County School Retirees Assoc., a member of the PA State Education Assoc. and the National Education Assoc.
He was a member AARP, the National Rifle Assoc., the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare and the American Legion Post 867, Pleasant Gap.
He was an avid sports fan and played minor league baseball briefly as a catcher. He enjoyed going to camp, playing poker, hunting, gardening, canning, walking, traveling and spending time with family.
Jim enjoyed his life to the fullest for as long as his health allowed. He treasured the family tradition of every Sunday evening gatherings for the family meal.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tammy L Rossel of Gulf Breeze, FL., and a son Shane S. Settle of Bellefonte. He was preceded in death by a son, Wesley J. Settle and a grandson, Zachary S. Settle.
He is survived by seven grandchildren, Lindsey E. Settle, Tyson J. Settle, Dallas J. Settle, Carson A. Langley, Scott D. Langley, Levi S. Settle and Samantha J. Barner.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Bellefonte, PA and served on Consistory and other committees.
A memorial service will be held at the St. John's United Church of Christ, 145 W. Linn Street, Bellefonte on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 2:30 PM with the Reverend Anne Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery, Walker Township immediately following the memorial service.
