Obituary

Jean V. Cameron of State College, died Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College of Pneumonia.
She was born March 25, 1920, in Sioux Falls, SD, a daughter of Grace Holmes and Ellis O. Smith.
A music major, she graduated from Augustana College of Sioux Falls, and taught music in the schools of Midland and Lennox, SD
During World War II she enlisted in the WAVES, serving as Code Instructor at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. After attending Officer Candidate School, she was stationed in Washington, DC as a communications officer for the duration. During this time, she also earned a General Class License as an amateur radio operator, and was issued the call sign W3KNF.
In 1946 she married Donald L. Cameron, who preceded her in death on June 18, 1997. Surviving are her two children, Donna Jean of Houston, Texas, and Alan Gordon and his wife Nancy of State College; 2 grandchildren, Chelsea Quirk and Carly Smith; a brother Donald Ellis Smith of Darby, Connecticut.
She was an active musician, playing viola as a charter member of the Nittany Valley Symphony, as well as appearing as violist in the Nittany String Quartet.
As a free-lance artist, she also has done retouching and oil- coloring work for a local photographer for many years.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood, PA. There will be no public visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nittany Valley Symphony General Fund, P. O. Box 1375, State College, PA 16804
