Jean Gilliand, 82, of Boalsburg, died on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 at Centre Crest Nursing Center in Bellefonte.
Born in Pleasant Gap on March 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Merrill A. and Lula G. (Hazel) Moyer.
She was a graduate of the class of 1941 from the former Spring Township High School. Jean graduated at age 15, having had all A's except for one B during all twelve years of school.
Early in life, she had worked as a bookkeeper at Balfurd's Cleaners in State College, and for several years had worked as a film inspector in the audio visual department at Penn State University. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a cosmetician at Thrift Drug Store in State College for 8 years.
She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Pleasant Gap and later was a member of Zion Lutheran Church at Boalsburg, where she was active as a Sunday School teacher, musician, and choir member. More recently, she had attended the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in State College.
She enjoyed music and especially enjoyed playing the Steel and Spanish guitars, piano, and organ. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Stoner and her husband William E. of rural Centre Hall; one grandson, William W. Stoner and his wife Mary Lou of rural Centre Hall; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Devan Fawn Stoner, both of rural Centre Hall; and one sister, Pauline Monteith of Bellefonte.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Centre Hall. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the funeral home with Reverend Pat Lloyd officiating. Interment will then be at the Union Cemetery in Bellefonte.
