John I Bubb, 76 of Colyer, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Hearthside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center In State College.
He was born December 10, 1938 at Colyer, a son of the late George E. and Dora Grace Gantz Bubb.
On February 7, 1958 he married Erma J. Bonson who survives at home.
John graduated from Penns Valley High School.
Early in life he farmed at Colyer then went to work for Penn State University, and later served as a representative for the National Federation of Independent Business Assoc. and retired after working for many years as insurance agent for Metropolitan Insurance Company.
He was a member of Calvary Bible Church, Centre Hall where he was active in starting the Awana Club, and had served as a Deacon. John also was involved in fund raising at Centre County Christian Academy, and was especially known for the soups he made for those events.
Among the things he enjoyed most were hunting, especially coon hunting, raising, showing, and hunting with Blue Tick dogs; camping, spending time with his grandchildren and raising all species of flowers. He was also very active in coaching one of the Centre Hall Little League Baseball teams, and providing transportation to the games in his station wagon.
Surviving John, in addition to his wife is one son; John I. Bubb Jr.(Janell) of Spring Mills; three grandchildren, Mavis Fay Bubb of Linden Hall, Dalton John Bubb of rural Center Hall, and Nichole Mendez (Ryne) of Kansas City KS; and two sisters, Mary Alice Miller (Kenneth) of Rebersburg, and Patsy J. Hoy (John) of Creamery, PA, and brother in law Robert Witherite.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Viney June Witherite.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, P. C. 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA; and from 10 to 11 am Tuesday, October 20, at Calvary Bible Church, 600 North Pennsylvania Ave, Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will follow immediately at 11:00 am at the church, with the Reverend Rick Gilbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Zion Hill Cemetery, Colyer, PA
