John R. Masullo, 73, of rural Centre Hall, died Monday, August 27, 2007, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, at State College.
He was born August 29, 1933, in Bellefonte, a son of the late Louis and Mary Comunale Masullo.
On July 27, he and his wife, the former Virginia E. Spicer, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary having been married on July 27, 1957.
Mr. Masullo is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ann Kern and her husband Gregory of Bellefonte and Linda J. Masullo also of Bellefonte; one son, David R. Masullo and his wife Nancy of rural Centre Hall; three grandchildren, Bryan R. and Alan R. Masullo and Matthew K. Kern; three sisters, Angeline Masullo of Bellefonte, Mary Ann Halbritter of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Helen Confer of Milesburg.
In addition to his parents, four brothers, James, Joseph, Tony and Frank Masullo, preceded him in death.
John graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1953. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict from May 27, 1953 to April 26, 1955, earning the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Masullo worked as a mechanic for various companies including Sutton, and retired after having worked for over forty years at Graylock Lime Company at Bellefonte.
He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Ship Builders, Blacksmiths, Forgers and helpers AFLCIO CFL Union Lodge D092.
A gifted man of many talents, John was an avid gardener, enjoyed farming, was an accomplished woodworker, having built two houses, numerous pieces of fine furniture, and expertly repaired and restored other furniture. He also enjoyed hunting and reading.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Thursday, August 30, 2007, at Calvary Bible Church, 600 N. Pennsylvania Ave. (Route 144, Centre Hall Mountain) Centre Hall, PA. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday, August 31, 2007, at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery on West Church St. Centre Hall, with Pastor Richard Gilbaugh officiating. Military honors will immediately follow the graveside service.
