John "Jack" C. Miller, 84, of Pine Grove Road, State College, died Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.
He was born August 24, 1924 in West Township, Huntingdon County, a son of the late Ray F. and Huldah Streightiff Miller.
On April 24, 1946 he married Louise Lightner who survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Wanda L. Miller and her husband Bill of Danbury, Wisc.; and two sons, Ronald C. Miller and his wife Joan of Bernville, PA and Brian L. Miller and his wife Tammy of Huntingdon; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren; two brothers; a sister; a sister in law; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, three brothers and one sister.
Jack graduated from Petersburg High School in 1942. He served in the U. S. Army for eighteen months after the end of World War II.
He was raised on a farm, worked at Penn State University for thirty five years, and for the Ferguson Township Water Authority for eight years.
An avid hunter, he enjoyed spending time at his cabin in West Township, Huntingdon County. He also enjoyed and was widely recognized for the time he spent sitting on his porch at the east end of Pine Grove Mills, waving to passersby as they drove through town.
Friends will be received from 2 - 4 and 6 - 9 p. m. Monday, September 22, 2008, at the Petersburg Bethel Presbyterian Church, 5435 Bethel Road, Petersburg, PA, and on Tuesday from 10 - 11 a. m. at the church. The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a. m. at the church with the Reverend Carl D. Campbell officiating.
Burial will be in the Mooresville Cemetery in Mooresville.
