John William Puff, 93, died on September 10, 2017, at A Special Place Care Home in Yuma, AZ, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. John was born February 16, 1924 in Tyrone, PA. He was proceeded in death by his parents John Leroy Puff and Elizabeth Fetteroff Puff, sister, Francis, and brother George Robert.
He served in the US Marine Corp, 1944-46. A veteran of World War II, served in the Asiatic Pacific theatre, wounded in action in Okinawa. While in the Marine's he was champion boxer and received recognition as a rifle sharpshooter. He was recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart.
After leaving the Marine Corp, John married Edith Ruth Burris who has preceded him in death. He is survived by daughters, Deborah (Harold) Stahl, Billie Puff and son John (Sandi) Puff. Daughter, Dianne Wilson and son, Ted Puff preceded him in death. In life 9 grandchildren, Rich Mehalick, Brian Mehalick, Jim Stahl, Dan Wilkinson, Darci Stahl, Roger Bloom, Heather Bloom (deceased), Amy Puff Stone, Travis Puff and 16 great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sister Betty.
John owned and operated John Puff Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical and Remodeling business in Boalsburg, PA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, weight lifting and jogging. Upon retirement, he moved to Yuma, AZ. He did custom woodwork for family, friends and neighbors. He was an active member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW, American Legion, Moose and Elks.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 7, at the St. Luke Lutheran Church, 301 N. Pennsylvania Avenue in Centre Hall, PA. Visitation beginning at 10 am followed by a memorial service at 11:30. A cemetery service will follow with military salute at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall.
