Obituary

John "Swank" Smith, 80, of Bellefonte, died Saturday, February 25,2006 at Centre Crest Nursing Home.
He was born on August 6,1925 in Bellefonte to the late John F. and Helen Decker Smith.
On October 24,1946 he married Betty G. Garmen who preceded him in death on November 3,2002.
He was a 1943 graduate of Bellefonte High School.
He served in the US Navy in WW II and in the Army National Guard in the Korean Conflict.
He worked as a Tile Mechanic at Penn State University retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Bellefonte; the former Penns Valley Beagle Club; Life time member of the Bellefonte Elks; VFW of Bellefonte; and the Bellefonte American Legion Post #33.
He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed baseball and coached Little League from 1970 to 1980.
He is survived by a son, Scott Roger Smith of Bellefonte; a daughter, Natalie Smith Bathgate of Abington; a brother, Douglas S. Smith of Avis; and five grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 2,2006 at the St. John's Episcopal Church, 120 W. Lamb St.,Bellefonte,PA 16823. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM with the Venerable Daniel L. Selvage officiating. Burial will be private at the Centre County Memorial Park.
