John J. Sparks' Obituary
John J. Sparks, 99, of Centre Hall, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.
Born on March 19, 1914 in Glendora, NJ, he was a son of the late John J. and Bertha (Lewis) Sparks.
On November 24, 1938, he was married to Eletha Dorothy (Diegel) Sparks, who preceded him in death on February 26, 2005.
Mr. Sparks began his working career in textile industry working in a silk stocking mill. During the war years, he then worked for RCA. After leaving RCA, he returned to the textile industry working for many years and retiring as a sweater knitter.
He enjoyed baseball, golfing until he reached the age of 92, bird watching, surf fishing, Penn State University Athletics, and was an avid book reader, especially enjoying mysteries.
John had lived in Cape May Point, NJ for over 10 years, retiring to State College, PA in the 1980's to be near his daughter's family. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge in New Jersey for over 70 years and had earned his 33rd degree.
He is survived by two daughters, Dottie Kuns of Villages, FL, and Jody Musser (Bryant) of Centre Hall with whom he resided with for over 15 years; grandchildren, Barbara Hickey (Kent), Jennifer Vanada and her fianc Toby Stoner of Spring Mills, and Paige Gray (Sean) of New Cumberland; and great-grandchildren, John Hickey (a Sophomore at Penn State University), Kristen Hickey of Allentown, PA, Cullen and Rowley Vanada, and Kendall and Phinnean Gray.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son in law, Joe Kuns; and sister and brother in law, Jeanette Diller and her husband John.
All Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the Centre Hall Area Branch Library, 109 W. Beryl Street, P.O. Box 420, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
