Johnie Goins, of State College, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 27, 2026, in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, at the age of 81. 

Born on August 31, 1944, in Nashville, Tennessee, Johnie attended the University of Tennessee, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. Throughout his career, he worked for NASA, Texas Instruments, Lockheed Martin, HRB Singer, and the Midway Research Center. He earned the respect of his colleagues as a patient teacher, a thoughtful listener, and someone who treated everyone with kindness and respect. 

Johnie married the love of his life, Barbara (Byer) Goins, on December 18, 1981, and together they built a life centered on family. He was a devoted husband and a proud father to his daughter, Kathryn, and his son, Andrew. He never missed an opportunity to tell them how proud he was and was always their biggest supporter. 

An avid golfer throughout his life, Johnie also enjoyed photographing landscapes and wildlife, spending time at the shooting range, attending State College Spikes baseball games, woodworking, and tackling projects around the house. He loved working with his hands and took pride in building, repairing, and creating things for those he loved. 

Those who knew Johnie will remember not only his quiet strength and patience, but also his goofy sense of humor. He had a way of bringing smiles to those around him and never missed an opportunity to lighten the moment with a joke or a laugh. Johnie will be remembered for his generosity, integrity, unwavering love for his family, and the example he set through his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara Goins; his daughter, Kathryn Goins; and his son, Andrew Goins.

A visitation for Johnie will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home.   Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
