Josephine Platt Gettig, 92, of Pleasant Gap died on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the Fairways of Brookline in State College.
She was born in State College on January 14, 1916 to the late Lynn E. and Helen (Breon) Platt.
She was married on September 5, 1937 to Carl I. Gettig, who preceded her in death on March 28, 2002 .
She graduated from State College High School in 1933 and also graduated from Penn State University in 1937 with a degree in Journalism.
She was a homemaker and was a travel agent with the Nittany Travel Service since 1951.
Mrs. Gettig was a member of the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church and was active within her church, serving as a choir director for fourteen years. She also was a member of the Altrusa Club of Centre County, serving as their president from 1965 to 1967.
She is survived by a nephew, Edgar Sommers of Boalsburg; a sister, Betty E. Dashbasch of West Palm Beach, Florida, and several great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Jack E. Platt; a sister Madeline Lynch; and a niece, Mrs. Dora Woomer.
Friends will be received from 12 - 2 p. m. Thursday, August 21, 2008, at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p. m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Carl Hill officiating. Burial will be at the Centre County Memorial Park.
