JULIA BUCCIARELLI FISHER December 27, 1943July 11, 2005
Julia B. Fisher, 61, of Port Matilda, PA, died at the Village at Penn State on Monday, July 11, 2005 after a year and a half battle with esophageal and stomach cancer. She was born on the 27th of December 1943, the youngest daughter of the late James V. and Julia I. Bucciarelli of Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Waynesburg and graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1961 and from Waynesburg College in 1965 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education.
After graduating from college, Julia taught 4th grade in Wellsburg, West Virginia for the 1965-1966 school year. In July of 1966, she married Carl M. Fisher who survives at home in Port Matilda.
After moving to State College, Julia was employed by The First National Bank of State College where she worked as a bookkeeper and teller until 1970. After leaving the bank, she became a stay-at-home mom to raise her three children. In 1984 she became the church secretary and financial coordinator for the Park Forest Baptist Church until she retired at the end of January 2004. During her time as secretary at the church, she also did part-time accounting for several small business organizations in the State College and Bellefonte area. She spent the remainder of her life fighting cancer.
Julia was an active member of the Park Forest Baptist Church doing such things as nursery, and organizing retreats and the secret sister program. In her spare time she enjoyed working handcrafts like quilting, crocheting, sewing, and cross-stitch. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading mystery novels, especially those written by Mary Higgins Clark. Julia participated for many years in various bowling leagues and was the secretary of the Seven Mountains Young American Bowling Alliance. She was a member of the State College Junior Women's Club and was also finance officer for the Penn State University Composite Squadron Civil Air Patrol from 1970 to 1985 during the time her husband Carl was the commander.
In addition to her husband, Julia is survived by three children: Catherine Elizabeth Ruth, her husband Ronald, and their daughter Adelyn Marie of Cornwall, PA; Stephen Carl Fisher, his wife, the former Carolyn Sheaffer of Bellefonte, PA, and their daughter Elizabeth Grace of Columbia, MD; and Jaime Lynne Anderson, her husband Michael, and their son Joshua Brighton of Bellefonte, PA. She is also survived by four sisters: Sarah Bucciarelli, Helen Bucciarelli, and Martha Smoljanovich of Waynesburg, PA, and Theresa Shafer and her husband Kenton of Dale City, VA. She was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Bucciarelli of Hopewell, VA.
A memorial service officiated by Dr. Rev. James P. Nolten will be held at the Park Forest Baptist Church in State College, PA on Saturday, July 23rd at 11:00 AM. Her ashes will be interred at the Centre County Memorial Park where burial services will be private at the convenience of the family.
