Kathleen M. McClellan, 90, of State College, PA, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at her residence.

Born March 15, 1927, in Minneapolis, MN, she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Andersen) VanKempen.

On June 6, 1951, she married John Markle McClellan, who preceded her in death on September 9th, 2004.

Kathleen was an inspiration to her family, and everyone who knew her. She was loved for her loyalty, compassion, generosity, and undeniable spirit. Earlier in life, she was an avid bridge player and golfer. Later, she loved watching golf and caring for her pets. She retired from Pennsylvania State University in 1989, after 25 years of service.

She had the tenacity of her Norwegian and Dutch ancestry. Everyone who knew her loved her passion, wit, and will to survive.

She is survived by her son, John H. McClellan; and three daughters, Patricia McClellan, Michele Almeida, and Suzanne Alonso Wright. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Katherine Alonso, Michael Alonso, Daniel Almeida, and Angela Almeida.

She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Street, State College, PA 16801. Burial will follow at the Centre County Memorial Park.
