Kathryn M. Matis, 88, of Bellefonte, died on Tuesday, October 4,2005 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center.
She was born on September 30,1917 in Crystal Falls,MI to the late Felix and Anna Phillips Nylund.
In 1938 she married Nicholas M. Matis who preceded her in death in 1989.
During WW II she worked at the Sylvania plant in Mill Hall and then at the Big Trout Inn in Bellefonte. In 1954 she then began work for Penn State University as a cook, retiring in 1979.
She was of Lutheran faith and enjoyed playing bingo.
She is survived by three sons; Richard S. Matis of Howard, Michael P. Matis and his wife Vesta of Milesburg, Joseph W. Matis and his wife Dianne of Bellefonte; two sisters, Helen Ollila and her husband Oliver of Crystal Falls, MI, and Louise Ollila of Crystal Falls, MI, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a infant son, a daughter-in-law, Jane and a brother-in-law, Raymond.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 6,2005 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services PC (formerly the Kyper Funeral Home) 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. A private burial will follow the services at the Union Cemetery in Bellefonte.
