KATHRYN HANNON OLDBERG

Kathryn "Kay" Oldberg, died at Foxdale Village, State College, Pennsylvania on January 26, 2006.
Kay was born August 13, 1907, in Schenectady, NY, to Eugene and Catherine Lonergan Hannon.
Kay was raised and attended schools in Schenectady. She graduated from Cornell University in 1929. It was there that she met her husband Sidney Oldberg, who she married in January, 1930. Sidney died in June, 1995.
Sidney and Kay lived in the Detroit area from 1930 until 1965. Her proudest achievement during those years was working with Msgr. Clement Kern, called "saint of the slums," in inner city Detroit. They then moved to Ithaca, NY. There she was happy to participate in Bib n Tucker, a used clothing outlet for needy people. Kay also was active in poetry and prayer groups in Ithaca. They moved to Foxdale in State College in 1993. In State College, she was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
She is survived by daughters Ruth Peters (Alan) of Quogue, New York, and Karin Shaw (Peter) of Port Matilda, PA; and son Terry Oldberg (Vicki) of Los Altos Hills, CA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held in The Word of God Chapel at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 867 Grays Woods Blvd, State College, Sunday, Feb. 5, 7:30 - 8:30 PM; a Wake Service will follow. The funeral Mass will take place at Good Shepherd Catholic Church Monday, Feb. 6, at 10 AM, with Rev. Fr. Philip Bender officiating.
