Kenneth Nelson Brooks' Obituary
Kenneth Nelson Brooks, 91, of Centre Hall, went home to be with his Lord, on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
He was born December 30, 1916, in Potter Township, a son of the late Guy R. and Alice Marshall Brooks.
On September 6, 1939, he married Twila V. Hartley who preceded him in death on November 1, 1998.
Mr. Brooks is survived by three sisters, Martha Weaver and Betty Hartley both of State College, and Connie Tressler and her husband, Harrison, of Pleasant Gap, two brothers, Philip L. Brooks of N. Fort Myers, FL, and Basil Brooks and his wife, Mona, of Rebersburg and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul G. Brooks, G. William Brooks and Lewis M. Brooks.
In the 1930's Kenneth found employment building Rt.144 over Snow Shoe Mountain, Rt. 45 from Centre Hall to Spring Mills, and Rt. 144 from Centre Hall to Potters Mills, and worked as a mechanic for the Hubert Nearhood Garage in State College. From 1941 until 1967, Ken worked as a mechanic for Neidigh Limestone Quarry in Oak Hall. From 1967, until his retirement on December 31, 1981, he worked as a mechanic at the Black Hawk Limestone Quarry at Centre Hall, which was owned by his brothers G. William and Lewis Brooks.
Mr. Brooks was an active faithful member of Penns Valley God's Missionary Church near Spring Mills, where he was a church board member for nearly fifty years, and served as church treasurer and as Sunday School Superintendent.
He was an avid hunter, and was an active gardener until his death.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Penns Valley God's Missionary Church, Route 45, near Spring Mills, PA, with the Reverend Gabriel Morley officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Penns Valley God's Missionary Church, 109 Evergreen Lane, Spring Mills, PA 16875.
