Obituary

Kenneth Z. Eungard, 89, of Valley View Haven in Belleville, formerly of Spring Mills, died May 25, 2005, at Valley View.
He was born June 6, 1915 in Spring Mills, a son of the late Cleveland and Ida M. Zubler Eungard, and was the step-son of the late Anna M. Silkman Eungard.
On July 31, 1940 he married Kathryn R. Silkman, who died Nov. 16, 1996.
Mr. Eungard was a kind, honest, fair, patriarchal gentleman, who lived a good Christian life and was totally devoted to his family. He will be fondly and respectfully remembered and sadly and enormously missed by all who knew him.
He was a 1933 graduate of Gregg Township Vocational School. While in school he was a charter member of the Gregg Twp. FFA. In 1958 he was made an honorary member of the Penns Valley FFA. He was the former Secretary of the board for the former Spring Mills National Bank having served on the board from 1964 - 1999. After the merger with Jersey Shore State Bank, he served on the Advisory Board of the bank from 1999 - 2000.
Since 1926, he was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmers Mills and also served as secretary of the Church and as Sunday School superintendent for many years. He served on the board of the Union Cemetery in Farmers Mills for many years. He was also a member of the Gregg Township Fire and ambulance companies, and a life member of the Nittany Antique Machinery Association. He was also active in serving on the PEER Committee and other committees at Valley View Haven.
Before graduation and after (1933 to 1967) he worked with his father farming, and in the farm equipment business. They owned and operated Eungard's Farm Equipment, selling and maintaining John Deere farm equipment. With his three sisters' families they continued to operate the sales and service business, and carried on the family farming business. In addition, he worked in maintenance at Hanover Brands from 1968 until he retired in 1980.
Mr. Eungard is survived by two daughters, Barbara Jordan and her husband Bryce of Austin, TX and Linda Greig of Centre Hall. He is also survived by a grandson Gregory Brueggebors of Austin, TX and by two granddaughters Kathy Kensinger and her husband Paul of Spring Mills, and Sherry Sharer and her husband Matt, of Centre Hall. For Kathy and Sherry he was a father figure as well as a loving grandfather. His pride and joy were his five great-grandchildren, Macee, Madisyn, Ryan, Lucas and Gillian. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and, great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and their spouses, Mabel and Tom Donovan, Sara and Arthur Auman and Helen and Harry Auman.
One of the things he enjoyed most was attending Grange Fair. He attended every fair since he was three years old and was already talking about being able to attend the fair in 2005. He was greatly interested in and had a wealth of knowledge about antique tractors, especially John Deere tractors. He was deeply interested in the preservation of the Pennsylvania Dutch language. Mr. Eungard was admired for his knowledge of local history and his story telling ability.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 28 from 6 - 9 p. m. at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services P.C. 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA.
The funeral will be Sunday, May 29, 2005 at 2:00 p. m. at St. John's Union Church in Farmers Mills, with the Rev. N. Gregory VanDyke, and the Rev. Dr. Derald Stump officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Farmers Mills.
