Kenneth Worthy Messenger, 71, of Center Hall, died on September 18, 2011 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born February 14, 1940 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Everett and Causbie Messenger.
On November 24, 1962 he married Sally Tuminello who survives him. He enjoyed 49 years of marriage with his "Gal Sal".
He is also survived by two sons William Nelson Messenger and his wife Jo of York PA and James David Messenger and his wife Tammy of Etters PA and three grandchildren, Kate, Gabriella and Austin, and a brother Richard and his wife Bonnie of Pittsburgh, PA.
Ken graduated from South Hills High School in 1958, with honors. He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966 in the Viet Nam Era. He later graduated from the Pennsylvania Police Academy and served as Chief of Police for Center Hall Borough. Ken was employed by Comprehensive Design Associates later to become Omni Cop as an engineer and retired shortly after Enron purchased the company.
Ken was a gun and outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and treasured his time with nature. The last years of Ken's life were spent observing nature by photographing and recording local wildlife. Ken was a previous member of the Pennsylvania Bass Masters and a current member of the American Legion and National Rifleman Association as well as a Life member of the North American Hunter Association.
There will be no public viewing. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held Sunday at Heintzelman's Funeral Home, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with services at 4:00 PM with the Rev. Russell L. Sauerwein officiating. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the Messenger home following the services.
Due to a sever allergy to flowering plants, in lieu of live flowers, artificial flowers or a memorial contributions may be made in his name to a trust for his wife, Sally Messenger at North West Savings Bank, 219 N. Pennsylvania Ave., P.O. Box 395, Centre Hall PA 16828.
