L. Darlene Lucas, 53, of Rural Centre Hall, died Sunday, January 25, 2004, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA
She was born Feburary 18, 1950, in in Berryville, VA, a daughter of David R. and Anna B. Kitts Jackson, who survive in Bellefonte.
On May 21, 1983, she married Roy I. Lucas, who survives at home.
Mrs. Lucas was a homemaker. She also worked as caregiver at a nursing home, and for many years owned and operated the Panda Den Daycare Center near Centre Hall.
She attended The Bellefonte Church of God.
She served as a volunteer for PAWS and at Salem Hill Haven Personal Care Home. She devoted much of her life to helping others and even in her death continued to give to others by being an organ donor.
Darlene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and other family members, home decorating, shopping, and gardening, especially working with flowers.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by one daughter, Misty A. Lucas Taylor of Pleasant Gap; three sons, James M. Bickle Jr. and his wife Pamela, of Centre Hall, Michael W. Bickle and Wendy (Thompson) of Julian, and Brian Lucas and Billie Jo (Glasgow) of rural Spring Mills; two sisters, Sandra K. Chamberlain of State College and Kathy D. Proctor of Kearneysville, W VA; two brothers, David L. Jackson of Bellefonte and Robert R. Jackson of Boalsburg; and ten grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m., Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 2004, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Warren Somers officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
