Larry A. Brown, 76, of Centre Hall, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, at State College.
He was born September 17, 1937 in Potter Twp., a son of the late Samuel and Anne A. Allen Brown.
On April 1, 1976 he married Janice "Duck" E. Thompson who preceded him in death November 18, 2011.
Mr. Brown served in the U. S. Navy from 1956 through 1962, earning a Good Conduct Medal while serving with Air Anti-Submarine Squadron 36 in Norfolk VA.
Larry was a graduate Penns Valley High School in 1955. He was employed in the steel building industry. He was a member, past president, had served on the executive board of the former local 772 Iron and Steel Workers Union, served as a delegate to the Iron workers International Convention and to the Iron workers District Council of Northern Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and Northern West Virginia and was a 50 year member of the International Association of Bridge Structural Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers . Larry had served as an Apprentice Instructor and Coordinator, mentoring to people entering the industry, teaching them all aspects of working with steel including how to safely work at great heights.
Among Larry's deep interests was going to races and classic cars. He also enjoyed attending auctions at Belleville.
Surviving Larry are four sisters, Beverly B. Hotaling (Alton) of Durham NH, Priscilla B. Bruce of Forest Park, IL, Connie Sue Mell (T. Larry) of La Crosse, WI, and Brenda B. McNeil of Forest Park, IL; three special cousins, Bonnie, Wallace and Robert; and his dog Nika.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will follow immediately at 8:00 p. m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
