Leon J. "Cupcake" Cassady, 84, of Pleasant Gap, died Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Centre Crest Nursing Home following an extended illness.
He was born on January 16, 1922 in Huntingdon to the late Edward and Hazel Brandt Cassady.
On November 3, 1943 in Wauchula, FL he married Marie E. Kersey who survives at home.
He served in the US Army during WW II earning the rank of Sergeant.
He retired from the Rockview State Corrections Facility. He also worked for Penn State at Rec. Hall and the football games which he loved doing.
He was a member of the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, Elks Club of Bellefonte, Fraternal Order of Police, Logan Grange #109, Pleasant Gap Lions Club, Old Fort Lodge of Centre Hall, Centre County Shrine Club, A,B and W Hunting Camp, Pleasant Gap Legion, PA Sheriffs Association, Tall Ceders, Bellefonte VFW, American Legion Pleasant Gap, Mount Union IOOF, and a life time member of the Pleasant Gap Fire Co.
In addition to his wife, he survived by two sons, Edward R. Cassady and his wife Fern of Apopka, FL, and Harold L. Cassady and his wife Sandra of Penna Furnace; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Russell Cassady.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services PC, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. The funeral service will be at 11 am on Thursday, December, 28, 2006 at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Osif officiating.
