Obituary

Leonard R. Rhoads, 84, of Bellefonte, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center.
He was born on March 24, 1924 in Coleville, a son of the late E. Leonard and Esther Kellerman Rhoads.
On August 30, 1953 he married the former Mildred Wood who survives at home.
He attended the Coleville School and graduated from the Bellefonte High School in 1942.
He served his country in the US Army during WW II in France and Germany.
He played many years of County League baseball for the Coleville teams and was an outstanding ball player.
He was employed by Bell Telephone Company and retired in 1986 after 39 years of service.
He was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church of Bellefonte. He was the oldest living Past Master of the Bellefonte Lodge #268, past High Priest of the Bellefonte Royal Arch Chapter #241, and past Master of the Bellefonte Constans Commandry #33. He was also a member of the Bellefonte VFW and life member of Bell Telephone Pioneers. He and Mildred enjoyed watching sports together for many years, especially Penns Valley, IUP, Bellefonte and Penn State baseball.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mildred; two daughters, Ruth Meyers and her husband Steve of Centre Hall, Mary Suto and her husband Tony of Sterling, Mass; two grandchildren, Kenneth Grubb and his wife Stephanie of Helena, Mont., Brittany Suto of Sterling, Mass; two great grandchildren, Nathan and Rachel Grubb of Helena, Mont; three sisters, Pauline Stonebraker of Fort Collins, Col., Esther Thomas of Bellefonte, Hazel Markle of State College; and a brother, Tom Rhoads of Tucson, Az.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Lucas and Ruth Smith.
He was a kind and loving man who touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by his family.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 AM Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughs St., Bellefonte, PA 16823. The funeral service will follow at the church with the Reverend Howard Lindsey officiating. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery.
