Lewis "Lew" I. Crain, 72, of State College, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 at Hershey Medical Center In Hershey, PA
He was born November 4, 1931 in Philipsburg, a son of the late Rev. Lewis and Sarah Cowfer Crain and was a step son of the late Eldren (Bo) Crain.
On September 28, 1980 he married Sharon L. Dando who survives at home.
Mr. Crain graduated from Philipsburg High School in 1949, and served with the U. S. Army Military Police during the the Korean Conflict period.
Lew worked for NAPA for 25 years and for the past 23 years owned and operated Crain's Auto Parts Store.
He attended Bethel Church of the Nazarene in State College. Sharing his faith in Christ was one of his primary goals. He also enjoyed hunting, working with his John Deere Tractors, collecting belt buckles, attending yard sales and markets and especially enjoyed his cat Fluffy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cherie L. Verbeck and her husband Leonard of Pleasant Gap, PA; 2 sons, David Lewis Crain and his wife Julie of Philipsburg and Kevin H. Fink and his wife Melanie of State College; two sisters Grace L. Butler and her husband Charles and Bernice Lewis all of Philipsburg; and seven grandchildren, JayAnne, William, Steven, Kevin Jr, Katelyn, Garrett and Colton. In addition to his parents and step father he was preceded in death by a sister Mildred Hensal and a brother Leonard Crain.
Friends will be received from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p. m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at Mark D. Heintzelman funeral Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, and from 10 - 11 a. m. Thursday at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Rural Port Matilda, PA. The funeral will be at 11 a. m. at the church with the reverends Paul D. MacPherson, Lee Cowfer, Ned Burkett and Jacob Denny officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery adjacent to the church.
