Obituary

Linda T. Shaeffer, 65, of Rural Centre Hall, died Monday, March 22, 2004 at her home.
She was born March 22, 1939 in Washington DC, a daughter of the late Harold O. and Florence Basim Thomen.
She was married to Charles P. Shaeffer who preceded her in death.
Linda was a 1979 graduate of the Thompson Institute in Harrisburg, with a certificate as a medical assistant. She worked as a medical assistant in physician's offices in the Harrisburg and State College areas, retiring in May of 2003.
Mrs. Shaeffer spent the early years of her life in the Washington DC area, and began spending time in Central Pennsylvania in 1962, moving to the Colyer Lake area permanently in 1987.
She had a deep interest in music. She loved spending time in the out of doors and especially enjoyed the Smokey Mountains. She was an avid artisan and enjoyed attending and displaying her crafts at arts festivals and shows throughout the Mid Atlantic Region. She had a deep concern for helping other people and was a champion of the less fortunate. She also loved animals especially cats and birds, having rescued and provided a good home for many cats in her lifetime.
Mrs. Shaeffer is survived by a daughter, Susan Shaeffer of Rural Centre Hall; a step daughter, Sandy Swanson of Cleveland Ohio; one son David Shaeffer of Indianapolis, Indiana; two brothers, John Thomen of Salisbury NC and Donald Thomen, of Dallas Oregon; four grandchildren, Wendy and Ben Shaeffer of Melbourne, FL, and Rachael Shaeffer of Phoenix, AZ and Kelly swanson of Fayetteville, NC; a special niece, Laura Thomen Stadtler and a special friend who has been like a sister, Suzan Spalvins of Boalsburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Marshall P. Shaeffer in 1996.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 p. m. Friday, March 26, 2004 at St. John's United Church of Christ N. Church St. in Boalsburg, with the Rev. George Burn officiating.
Burial will be in the Boalsburg Cemetery, Boalsburg, PA
Friends will be received in the fellowship hall of the church immediately after the funeral and graveside services.
The family will provide the flowers, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to PAWS 1042 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801, or to the SPCA, General Potter Highway, R. D. # 1, Centre Hall, PA 16828; or to a charity of the donor's choice
