Obituary

Lois Lucille Lutz, 88, of Boalsburg, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017, in hospice care at Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte.

Born on November 9, 1928, in Stormstown, she was the daughter of the late Rupert F. and Dolores M. (Gable) Smith. On August 28, 1948, she married Paul C. Lutz who survives at home. They were married for 68 wonderful years.

Lois graduated from the State College High School in 1946.

Lois was a world renown lily grower and hybridizer. Lois was a member of the North American Lily Society and a charter member of the Mid-Atlantic Lily Group, and was newsletter editor for many years. She joined the Boalsburg Garden Club in 1960 and was a life member. Lois also assisted Dr. Norman Deno in his seed germination studies, providing many seeds for his research. She was also involved in breeding hostas and primroses.

The "Lois Lutz" Primrose is available through several nurseries. She was an avid reader and loved to do word search puzzles.

She is survived four children; Deborah Lutz (friend Charles "Jim" Keener) of Boalsburg, Ronald Lutz (Jackie) of Lemont, Patricia Lutz of Boalsburg, Carol Johnson (Frank) of Fayetteville, NC; three grandchildren, Heidi Smith (Scott) of Harrisburg, Renee Lutz of Kingston, PA, Sarah Carter (Josh) of Wade, NC; three great-grandchildren, Grace and James Smith, and Christopher Carter; She is also survived by her sister Winifred Kucas and sister-in-law, Betty Smith.

Friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 12, 2017, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Pkwy, State College, PA., with Father Neil Dadey officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boalsburg Garden Club, 420 Loop Rd, Boalsburg, PA, or Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Pkwy, State College, PA.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at Centre County Memorial Park.
