Lois Bowersox Stuart, 82, of State College, died March 18, 2015, at the Hearthside Nursing Home, State College.

Born April 4, 1932 in Leatherwood, PA, she was the daughter of the late Blaine M. Bowersox and Naomi Shook Bowersox.

On June 13, 1953, she married James E. Stuart who survives at home. They were married for 61 wonderful years.

As a young woman, she played fife in her high school marching band. After graduation she was employed as a telephone operator until her marriage. When her youngest child entered high school, she went to work as a secretary for Fran Fisher at WPSX-TV from 1972-1986. For the first ten years after her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida's Gulf Coast every winter. During the milder seasons in recent years they loved visiting at their camp and watching the local wildlife along the Allegheny River.

Lois attended Fairbrook United Methodist Church, in State College. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening; feeding the birds; and spending time with her family, friends, and church family.

Along with her husband she is survived by two sons, Terry L. Stuart, of State College, Tracy J. Stuart (Deb Penn) of Milroy; one daughter, Kathleen E. (Mike) Loewen, of State College; one sister,Viola Shumaker, of Shippenville; one aunt, Gertrude Wiant, of State College; and two grandchildren, Jamie Tibbott, of Woodland, and Annie Reynolds.

Lois was preceded in death by three brothers, Dean, Merle and Raymond Bowersox; and two sisters, Grace Milliren, and Ruth Dickerson.

Friends and family will be received from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2015, at the Fairbrook United Methodist Church, 4201 West Whitehall Rd. Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865; the funeral service will immediately follow with The Reverend Eugene McCallips officiating.

Burial will follow the service at Centre County Memorial Park.
