IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louise Parcella
Bitler
February 2, 1929 – January 15, 2023
Louise Parcella Bitler died peacefully on January 15, 2023 at Juniper Village in State College, PA.
Louise lived in State College nearly all of her adult life. Born February 2, 1929 to Louis Parcella and Amelia Parcella in Queens NY, she attended Our Lady of Wisdom Academy. She was the first in her extended family to attend college and obtain degrees in STEM. She earned a BS in Chemistry from Seton Hill College in 1950 and a MS in Chemistry from Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1955, where she met her husband William (Bill) Bitler, who died in 2007. They were married in Pittsburgh on January 16, 1954.
Louise worked as a research chemist in Pittsburgh. They moved to State College in 1962, where she studied Russian and Computer Programming at Penn State.
Louise loved her black labs and her crosswords. She began volunteering at Park Forest Elementary and later worked as a library assistant and teachers' aide. She took joy in serving as a poll worker later in life. She was a Penn State football season ticket holder for 50 years and was a huge NY Yankee fan. Within her family and friend groups, she was renowned for great cooking, kindness, generosity, and love of family and her animals, but always was quiet.
Louise is survived by daughter Marianne Bitler (partner Geoff Pike), grandsons Charlie Bitler and William Pike, and son Jonathan Bitler (partner Alison Jumper).
Viewing will be held Wednesday, Janaury 18, 2023 2:00pm - 3:00pm at the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home 1034 Benner Pike State College, PA 16801 with a funeral service to immediately follow at 3:00pm.
