Mabel L. Witherite, 73, of Centre Crest in Bellefonte, formerly of Potters Mills and Mt. Nittany Residences, State College, died Monday, March 5, 2007, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
She was born April 16, 1933 in Wilmington, DE, a daughter of the late Frederick W. Davis and Reba Saunders Davis Dukes.
She is survived by three daughters Carole A. Benedict and her husband Frank of Davie, FL; Barbara J. Irwin and her husband Philip, and C. Christine Butts and her husband Frank Jr. all of Centre Hall; a son Charles "Chuck" E. Witherite Jr. and his wife Christine of Milesburg, 6 grandchildren, Derek B. and Justin L Houtz, Heather M. and Matthew R. Benedict and Kevin M. and Keith D. Butts; and one brother, Robert S. Davis of St. Augustine FL.
She was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall, where she sang in the church choir. She was also associated with the Episcopal Church at various times in her life. Mabel was a member of the V. F. W Ladies Auxiliary in Potters Mills and Bellefonte.
She especially enjoyed needlework crafts, playing Bingo and watching NASCAR races on TV.
Ms. Witherite worked at Jostens in State College in the book binding department. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 11:00 a. m. at Trinity United Church of Christ, E. Ridge St. and Route 144 in Centre Hall with the Rev. S. Leigh Pick officiating. Friends will be received immediately following the memorial service in the fellowship hall of the church.
