Obituary for Margaret Fisher Hess
Margaret Fisher Hess, 94, formerly a Bellefonte resident for sixty-eight years, died in Peoria, Arizona, on June 14, 2005. She was a Business teacher at Bellefonte High School for seventeen years, and the manager of the Bellefonte theaters for a number of years.
Margaret was born in Saugerties, New York, on October 20, 1910, to the Reverend Theodore and Antonia Hoffmeister of New York. She married Fred Fisher, former manager of the Bellefonte theaters, who preceded her in death in 1955. In 1965, she married Ernest Hess of Bellefonte, who died in 1988.
Margaret Hess was graduated from Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, PA. She also attended the Pennsylvania State University. During World War II she managed the Bellefonte theaters while her husband Fred served in the Navy. She also managed the theaters during the fifteen years after his death. She taught Business courses at Bellefonte High School from 1961 to 1976, then she substituted at the High School for the next fifteen years, until she was eighty years old. She was a devoted Penn State football fannever missing a home game for over 40 years.
Margaret Hess was named one of the Outstanding Secondary Educators of America in 1973. She was a member of Pi Gamma Mu National Social Sciences Honor Society. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bellefonte.
Margaret is survived by her two daughtersMargaret Ishler Bosse of Surprise, Arizona, and Diana Lawson of Wappingers Falls, New York; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and three stepchildrenJoyce Kain, York, Pennsylvania; Steve Hess, Spring Grove, Pennsylvania; and Don Hess, Chicago.
She will be interred in Boalsburg Memorial Cemetery, on Monday, June 20, in a private ceremony conducted by her son-in-law, the Reverend Richard Bosse.
